We have never been so popular
This site has just had its busiest three days in its history. 350 hits in three days!
This is after the events of last week.
As someone famously remarked, ‘it’s a funny old world!’

*please note that we will be using the videos for future staff engagement events

Change of name
Thanks to all the people who have sent messages of support following the election result. As around 2000 people voted for us – far more than have ever voted for us at a local election before – it is obvious that we had the support of literally thousands of permanent residents in the ward.
We are not about to just walk away from them and we will keep this site up and running as a forum for anyone with a genuine interest in Surbiton Hill and a source of relevant information. We can’t, obviously, go on calling it by its present name, as we would not wish to claim an office we do not hold. But we would welcome suggestions for the new title from readers. The Surbiton Hill part will, of course, stay. The domain name will remain www.surbitonhillcllr.com. That name is registered to me personally and no-one else may use it, so people will not need to make any changes to their computers to carry on reading it or writing to it.
Election result
Most readers will doubtless be aware that we lost Surbiton Hill to the Lib Dems at the election. You will also be aware of the kind of campaign they fought from reading my earlier entries. I hope that they will work as hard for the ward as their predecessors really did and they claim to have done during their years of invisibility.
This site will continue, though I will not be in a position to provide the daily information I have been used to providing. Nonetheless my sources will not entirely dry up. It may change its name slightly but I’ll take my time thinking about that. The domain name belongs to me and no-one else may use it, nor can I change it.
Nick, Mavis, Janet and I would like to thank all of you for the support so many of you have given us in the past. We all love Surbiton Hill and all the people in it with whom we have worked – in the case of Janet and myself – for 12 years. Our very best wishes to all of you and our thanks to those who voted for us.
The Big Day has arrived!
Polling Day at last- and a last minute message from George Osborne:
Dear Paul,
Tomorrow we have the chance to change Britain for the better. But this election is very close and we need all the support you can give in the time that’s left to make that happen.
We have just 24 hours to choose a new government led by David Cameron and save Britain from five more years of Gordon Brown. Only by voting Conservative tomorrow will you get a new government that starts cleaning up the mess on Friday. A vote for the Lib Dems is a vote for five more years of Gordon Brown.
William Hague sent you this video yesterday about the last thirteen years under this Labour government. If you can think of any friends who need to be reminded about their record of failure, please click here to send this on to them.
David’s energy, leadership and values have really shone through in this campaign. As I write, he has been on the campaign trail for almost 36 hours non-stop, right through the night. Nobody has campaigned harder than him.
During this political marathon he has travelled across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and done an overnight bus tour to talk to groups of night shift workers. His final rally speech will be in Bristol at 6.30pm, so don’t forget to watch it on TV.
This tour shows that this campaign is all about winning door by door, street by street, constituency by constituency – and we need you to get out there and fight for every last vote.
But if you’re not able to get out onto the streets or do some telephone canvassing, you can still do you bit online to make a difference. As well as forwarding this email on, please tell your friends on Facebook and Twitter why you are voting Conservative, and please donate online to pay for last minute leaflets and online adverts.
The election moment we have been waiting for these last thirteen years is upon us. Together, if we work hard, we really can bring the change Britain needs.
Consultation on Primary places
This has just arrived from RBK. Residents please note dates, times and places of drop-in meetings.
Dear Surbiton Neighbourhood Councillors,
As you are no doubt aware, it is proposed to permanently increase the number of primary school places provided in the borough. Part of this process is to consult on draft plans for the accommodations changes at schools that are proposed for expansion. This pre-planning consultation is running from 17 May 2010 to 4 June 2010.
Letters are being sent to residents local to each of the schools to invite them to give their views on the draft plans.
All drop in sessions are from 3.00 – 7.00pm. The meetings in Surbiton Neighbourhood are as follows:
- 19 May 2010 Grand Avenue Primary School
- 25 May 2010 St Matthew’s Primary School
In addition to the above, the plans will be on display before the Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee meeting on 26 May 2010 from 6.30 – 7.30pm, and will be available at the libraries and on the Kingston website.
