Tiptoe through the Tombstones

May 29, 2013

at the cornerHOUSE
Thursday, May 30 to Saturday, June 1 at 8pm

A comedy thriller Tiptoe Through the Tombstones comes to the cornerHOUSE this week. The play, written by Norman Robbins and performed by Upstage Theatre Company, is the second in a trilogy about the mysterious and murderous goings-on at the Tomb family home, Monument House.
Lawyer Mortimer Crayle has gathered the last remaining Tombs – those who weren’t bumped off in the previous play – at the estate, ostensibly to inform them about their inheritance. But he has designs on that inheritance – designs which demand the death of all the Tombs.
As the fog rolls in, hosts and guests become embrolied in Crayle’s nefarious plot.
Tiptoe Through the Tombstones runs from Thursday, May 30 to Saturday, June 1 at 8pm.

Needle petition: background info.

May 21, 2013

from RBK website:

Since Surbiton Health centre opened in March, the parents of Lime Tree School, Health Centre users and residents have become aware of the range of services at the Centre. One of these services is the needle exchange and provision of methadone, which the parents and the community had not previously been made aware of. This is causing great concern. Combined with some inappropriately placed benches in the Health centre grounds facing the playground means action is needed to ensure the parents feel their children are safe. The Council needs to urge the CCG to deal with this and ensure that the CCG and Surbiton Health centre both communicate the facts with residents and parents as well as remove the service and benches.

The latest signature count is 197, which is a lot considering the petition has only been running a few days. Ed.

Petition on Needle Exchange

May 20, 2013

Please see below a link to a petition that Peter Kelk is sponsoring with regard to the Surbiton Hospital Needle Exchange. This is of direct relevance to residents in Surbiton, especially users of Lime Tree School, the Health Centre or just residents like us who care about our community. Please access the petition via the link below.  Councillors Karen George and Andrea Craig have been very proactive in highlighting this issue and trying to get the Lib Dem Council to understand the risks involved in possibly exposing young children to this type of activity.

(My recollection is that Kaleidoscope used to look after this need at their HQ in central Kingston. I’m not quite clear why that seems no longer to be the case. Anyone who thinks they know can access the Forum via the Comment facility. Ed.)

Crossings

The team that really got results!

The team that really got results!

We note some reference a while back from the Lib Dem councillors in Surbiton Hill to the possibility of doing something (unspecified) about the crossings in Upper Brighton Road.

Paul Johnston says, ‘As one of the promoters of the scheme to place three pelican crossings in Upper Brighton Road and Kingsdowne Road at the approach to the five road junction I would be interested to see what further work is possible to the zebra crossing already in place lower down the hill.

I also wonder why, when it was agreed over three years ago that the zebra crossing near the Thornhill Road – Hook Road junction should also be converted into a pelican with traffic light control, nothing has happened whatsoever.’

The Lib Dems have all three seats, control the Neighbourhood and control the Council but they sit there, twiddling their thumbs and achieving precious little.

May 8, 2013

Report by Chris Hayes, Alexandra Ward Conservatives

Residents on the Sunray Estate, Tolworth turned out en masse on Sunday 5 May 2013 to action a community clearing of the service road between Hazel Bank and Meadway.

The action morning was successfully organised by Sunray and Egmont Residents Association (SERA). The clear up gathered up over 60 black sacks of various rubbish types; Cllr Hudson and Chris Hayes took 17 of them off to the recycling centre for disposal.

Residents and SERA volunteers cleared the undergrowth and rubbish that lined the sides of the road. Tea, coffee and soft drinks were provided throughout the morning.

Cllr Richard Hudson and Chris Hayes were on site to lend a hand wielding shovels and wheel barrows. (Richard is the one with the wheelbarrow, wearing sunglasses. Ed)

Cllr Hudson said: “It is marvellous that so many residents turned out for this action, we are going to try to make this a regular feature.”

Chris Hayes added: “This was a great showing of community spirit and action.”
