Recycling for flats

July 27, 2009

boybin2.e59d3a32-2From RBK Environment:

Dear Councillor
……. We are now developing the plan for implementing a new collection service for flats. The vision for the flats service is that wherever physically possible, residents living in flats will receive a recycling and landfill waste collection service that is comparable to that already received by households. All residents in the borough should be able to recycle as much waste as possible.
The Waste Team has made good progress in planning the new services for flats. We are aware that there are a number of residents in flats who are enthusiastic about recycling, and we are aiming to ensure that as many of them as possible are included in the first stage of implementing the new service.

Interested residents should contact either RBK Department of Environmental Services or us. We would be particularly interested in hearing from Resident’s Association Committees or their officers. Contact details are on the ‘About Us’ page or on ‘Useful Phone Numbers’

New plans for Tolworth Broadway

July 27, 2009

From RBK Communications:

An ambitious and innovative scheme to revitalise Tolworth Broadway has been unveiled by Kingston Council and Studio Egret West.

Phase one of the £2.1 million scheme will have three key elements:

1. Removing the central barriers – creating a street layout that removes the dominance of vehicles and makes it easier for pedestrians to cross the road at any point they choose

2. Creating a ‘Greenway’ – transforming the central reservation into an eye-catching, uncluttered space where people can walk and cycle.  This ‘greenway’ will be the most striking feature of regeneration project

3. The Green Bowl – Providing road-level pedestrian crossings and improving the footbridge over the A3 to create a more welcoming space.  The new ‘Greenway’ will meander its way through this new space, continuing its journey down Kingston Road and linking the new-look Broadway with the train station and open spaces of Kings Georges Field and Tolworth Court Farm.

Kingston Council is now inviting local residents and businesses to view the proposals, including artists’ impressions of the scheme, and give their feedback.

Roy Thompson, Service Director for Planning and Transportation at Kingston Council, said: “Public consultations told us that local residents and businesses think that the regeneration of Tolworth Broadway is critical to the future success and prosperity of the whole area.  Improved pedestrian links and a more visually striking environment were top of the wish list.

“We have been working with the designer, Studio Egret West, to use this feedback and put together the proposals that are being presented today.  Residents and local businesses now have another opportunity to get involved and tell us whether these proposals represent the change they were looking for.”

The proposals can be viewed at www.kingston.gov.uk/tolworth_project Residents and businesses can give feedback by e-mailing tolworth.project@rbk.kingston.gov.uk or by telephoning 020 8547 5929.

holidays2005_0417Duped by credit card scam upon check in at Hotel

You arrive at your hotel and check in at Reception. When checking in, you give the front desk your credit card (for all the charges for your room). You get to your room and settle in. Someone calls Reception and asks for (for example) Room 620 (which happens to be your room).

Your phone rings in your room. You answer and the person on the other end says the following, ‘ This is Reception. When checking in, we came across a problem with your credit (or debit) card information. Please re-read me your credit card number and verify the last 3 digits numbers at the reverse side of your card. ‘

Not thinking anything you might give this person your information, since the call seems to come from Reception. But actually, it is a scam of someone calling from outside the hotel/front desk. They ask for a random room number. Then, ask you for credit card information and address information, sounding so professional that you do think you are talking to Reception.

If you ever encounter this problem on your holiday, tell the caller that you will come down to Reception to clear up any problems. Then, go to Reception and ask if there was a problem. If there was none, inform the manager of the hotel that someone called to scam you of your credit card information posing as a Reception employee.

P/S: If you feel that this tip is useful, please forward it to your relatives, friends & colleague
