Sun doesn’t rise for Sunrise.

April 5, 2007

Following the advice of the Surbiton Neighbourhood Planning Committee, the Borough Development Control committee last night refused planning permission for a revised scheme to build a 74-bed superior care home at the junction of Upper Brighton Road and Langley Avenue.

The Committee agreed with the view of Southborough Residents’ Association and the ward councillors that the proposed building is too massive for the site, that it will cause environmental damage through the loss of many trees and that the four houses that would be demolished should preferably be preserved.

Police inspection of School Lane estate

March 21, 2007

police1.jpgPaul Johnston accompanied members of the Surbiton Hill Safer Neighbourhood Police Team (SHSNT) on an inspection of School Lane estate yesterday morning. It was a very thorough inspection looking for evidence of anti-social activity perpetrated against the residents. Graffiti ‘artists’ may like to know that their vandalistic work was carefully spotted and recorded for possible future use as evidence. Graffiti IS criminal damage!

Some members of the team then went on to inspect the Bond Road and Ellerton Road areas with a similar object in view.

We are very grateful for the attitude of the SHSNT members to their work.

Council Tax: the Lyons Report

March 21, 2007

The Lyons Report on local government finance is out today. Heralded as the most searching review of the subject since Layfield in 1976, some may regard it as a bit of a damp squib. Read all about it on this link and then let us know what you think.

Blue badge fraud

March 19, 2007

We have had correspondence from disgusted residents who have observed abuse of the Blue Badge parking scheme for disabled drivers by people who are perfectly able bodied. It would seem from the attached Surrey Comet article that Kingston Police are going to be especially on the lookout for offenders. We hope everyone will help by their vigilance.
