April 5, 2007

Following the advice of the Surbiton Neighbourhood Planning Committee, the Borough Development Control committee last night refused planning permission for a revised scheme to build a 74-bed superior care home at the junction of Upper Brighton Road and Langley Avenue.

The Committee agreed with the view of Southborough Residents’ Association and the ward councillors that the proposed building is too massive for the site, that it will cause environmental damage through the loss of many trees and that the four houses that would be demolished should preferably be preserved.
