Berrylands garage saved!
from ‘Surbiton people’ via Cllr. Karen George:-
Plans to demolish Surbiton Hill Garage have been scrapped.
Land owner, Mr. M Daly submitted plans to build flats and a doctors surgery on the ground floor.
However, over a thousand people signed a petition against the plans.
34 written objections were also submitted to Kingston Council.
A similar plan was submitted 5 years ago but was refused based on the grounds of loss of local employment.
Surbiton Hill Garage has been in business since 1964 and is one of longest registered MOT testing stations in the UK.
The garage celebrates it’s 50th birthday next year.
The editor writes: I remember the application of five years ago and I know how very concerned many of the local residents were at the possible loss of the service they have relied on for so long. The right decision was made five years ago and has been made again now.
We at Surbiton Forum send our best wishes to this valued local firm, its staff and customers, on its 50th Birthday. May it and they enjoy many other birthdays giving valued service to the community.
