Recycling extended
October 31, 2012
from RBK website:
The range of goods that can now be recycled using the RBK doorstep collection service has now been extended.
Plastics and metals to recycle in your green box or outdoor recycling bin
You can recycle a wide range of metals and plastic food packaging in your green box (houses) or your outdoor plastics bin (flats). We take:
- cans and tins
- foil (including foil food trays)
- aerosol cans
- metal packaging
- jar lids
- sweet or biscuit tins
- plastic bottles(including drink, shampoo and detergent bottles)
- yoghurt pots
- ready meal trays
- fruit punnets and meat trays
- butter and margarine tubs
- ice cream containers
Remove the top, then rinse and crush
- Rinse and squash your plastic bottles, tins and tubs before putting them into your recycling
- Rinsing maintains the quality of the collected plastic and stops any nasty smells while you store your recycling.
- You do not need to remove any labels, they will come off during the recycling process
- Remove tops from bottles – they are made from a different type of plastic and can reduce the value of the collected plastic if left on
- There is no need to remove the small collar left by the top, as plastic reprocessors can cope with these being left on.
Not for recycling in your green box or outdoor recycling bin
We cannot recycle the following so please do not include them in your green box (houses) or outdoor plastics bin (flats):
- plastic bags
- plastic films such as cling film or food packaging layers that you would peel off
- plastic toys
- flowerpots
How to recycle these plastics and carrier bags
- Hard Plastics, such as flower pots, toys and garden furniture can be taken to Villiers Road Household Re-use and Recycling Centre (HRRC)
- Carrier bag recycling facilities are available at many supermarkets across the country. Please check with your local supermarket.
