Tesco thinks again

February 21, 2007

The Property Director for Tesco, Mr. Patrick Stones, has written to your councillors informing us that Tesco has withdrawn its application on the Toby Jug and MOD site at Tolworth.

He says, “..I was particularly struck by comments…….that we had not sufficiently engaged the local community in developing our proposals………….I have therefore decided that we should stop and give local people the opportunity to be more involved in the development of this important location.” He adds “Whilst Tesco will remain a prominent feature of the scheme, I am prepared to consider a redesign of our plans, with your help.

He gives an email address for people who wish to be involved: tolworthconsultation@fd.com. You can access it from here.

This is an important concession from such a large company and we would wish to give credit to the efforts of our colleagues in Alexandra Ward, Cllrs. Ian George and Richard Hudson and all the many local traders in Surbiton Hill, Alexandra and Tolworth & Hook Rise wards who helped collect collect signatures for their petition.
