Economic outlook for 2014

January 6, 2014

from the Rt. Hon. George Osborne MP

Dear Paul,

I’ve just given a speech setting out the long-term economic plan that the Conservatives are working through – and wanted to email you straightaway to explain what that means for you and for Britain.

Our economic plan builds a stronger, more competitive economy and secures a better future for Britain by:

  • Reducing the deficit so we deal with our debts, safeguard our economy for the long term and keep mortgage rates low
  • Cutting income taxes and freezing fuel duty to help hardworking people feel more financially secure
  • Creating more jobs by backing small business and enterprise with better infrastructure and lower jobs taxes
  • Capping welfare and reducing immigration so our economy delivers for people who want to work hard and play by the rules
  • Delivering the best schools and skills for young people so the next generation can succeed in the global race

The plan is working. For the first time in a long while, there’s a real sense that Britain is on the rise. But it’s far too soon to say job done – it’s not even half done.

There are still plenty of risks, and the greatest one here at home is the Labour Party. Labour offer more spending, higher taxes and more borrowing. Their economic approach brought economic ruin once, and would do the same all over again. Why would you give the keys back to the people who crashed the car?

So this year Britain faces a choice: to go on working through the plan that is delivering for Britain, or to squander what we’ve achieved and go back to economic ruin.

We need everyone in the country to get behind our plan. Please share this important message on Facebook and Twitter, or forward this email to your friends and family and let them know why you’re backing our long-term plan.

Thanks,

George Osborne

From the Chancellor of the Exchequer

December 6, 2013

gbcoinsnnotesDear Paul,

Yesterday I set out the Autumn Statement and my message is clear: our long-term economic plan is working, but the job is not yet done.

We are working through the plan to secure a responsible recovery for all.

Thanks to the sacrifice and endeavour of the British people, the economy is recovering.

The deficit is down, debt will fall sooner, businesses have created 1.4 million new jobs, and the growth forecast for this year has more than doubled.

  • We have been able to offer a £1,000 discount in business rates to shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs as part of a wider programme of help for the high street and support for businesses.
  • We have been able to freeze fuel duty, to get energy bills down, and to freeze rail fare rises.
  • As part of a youth package, we have been able to abolish the jobs tax for employers hiring people under 21. There will be a university place for anyone with the right grades, and through our welfare reforms we are giving young people the skills they need to succeed.
  • We are also recognising marriage in the tax system.

The single biggest risk to the recovery comes from the Labour Party who call for us to abandon our plan, to borrow more and to spend more. That is exactly what got us into this mess.

But there is still more to do. We need to keep on working through the plan. That is why we are legislating to cap welfare, making sure we fix the roof when the sun is shining by running a surplus and keeping public spending under control.

You can find out more about what the Autumn Statement means for you at this website.

Share it on Facebook and Twitter and help us finish the job.

Thanks,

George Osborne

So much for just 5 days…

December 6, 2013

Please note the road works in the Upper Brighton Road outside the Royal

Star & Garter Home are now scheduled to last until 13th December 2013.

Flooding in Upper Brighton Road

November 21, 2013

We are grateful to Southborough RA for the following information:-

There has been some flooding on the road to the front of The Royal Star & Garter Home. It is thought that this is as a result of tree roots encroaching the Thames Water network. Thames Water will have to carry out vital water works outside The Royal Star & Garter Home.  Work will commence on  Monday 25th November and is expected to last five days.  Working hours will be 08.00-17.00hrs Monday to Friday. There will be traffic restrictions to Upper Brighton Road and vehicles leaving the Home  will have to turn right to the roundabout.
