Hole in Upper Brighton Road……
…….opposite Graham Gardens. This just in from RBK Highways.
After excavation a further leak has been discovered at this location. Repair works are in progress, but may entail more extensive works to cut out and replace a section of the water main.
Due to the need for further repair works and the road construction requiring concrete replacement, the temporary traffic lights will now remain in situ until the works are completed.
The expected completion date for these works and the road being fully re-opened is now Sunday 9th May 2010.
Poster vandals
Here’s a link from Kevin Davis in Yeovil about vandalism and trespass. So far we’ve had one poster removed in Surbiton Hill, that I’m aware of – and one hoarding poster defaced. I understand that the situation in Richmond Park and North Kingston is rather more serious. I’ve even heard tales of people in balaclavas! It’s an old sport in that part of the world. We caught some Liberals at it when I stood in Ham and Petersham in 1982!
We wish Kevin and Zac all the best for tomorrow and fervently hope that the day will dawn when the Lib Dems grow up and stop resorting to tactics of the type. Now rearrange the following words to make a sentence: spots changes leopard a its never.
Out of FOCUS 3: fantasia on a theme by Pinocchio
The latest fantasy to emanate from the ‘Surbiton Hill ‘Focus’ team’ (founded 2010) apparently lays out how these three invisible persons have ‘a record of achievement’ for the people of Surbiton Hill stretching back years. Yet as far as anyone I know can tell, one of them has yet to set foot in the Ward or knock on a door.
This is standard Lib Dem nonsense, which has brought them dividends over the years because some people are gullible enough to believe it. The architect of this is undoubtedy the ‘Team’s’ agent, a former Councillor (for Grove Ward I think) and Leader of the Council, no less. No, not Derek Osbourne. And he gets it from the Liberal Democrat campaign document, ‘Effective Opposition’, produced by the Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors.
On page 21 it says:
“Be wicked, act shamelessly, stir endlessly.“
On page 23, it says:
“Don’t be afraid to exaggerate. For example, responses to surveys and petitions are always ‘massive’. If a council is doing something badly public expressions are always of ‘outrage’.”
And on page 4, it states:
“Positive campaigning will NOT be enough to win control of the council.”
On page 6, it says that “you can secure support from voters who normally vote Tory by being effectively anti-Labour and similarly in a Tory area secure Labour votes by being anti-Tory.“
There’s lots more where that came from.
What about truth, responsibility or the welfare of the citizen? What indeed?
Readers of this site can judge our actions and our words over the last four years. It’s all here back to November 2006. You will look in vain for any comparable ‘record’ from the Fantasia Team. Why? Because they’ve made it all up!
If you vote Lib Dem, this is what you’re voting for – they say so themselves!
If you get one of these leaflets, please remember to recycle it!
Don’t forget – your recycling and landfill waste collections remain unchanged during weeks with a Bank Holiday.
Your collection crew work on Public Holidays, so please place your containers out for collection on your usual collection day. The only exception to this is the weeks after Christmas and New Year, when collections may be made between one and three days later than usual. This means you should put ut your bins etc. on the usual day this week..
Lots done; lots still to do………
As this seemingly interminable election campaign nears its end, we think that the local election has become rather lost in the media-hype about Prime-Ministerial debates and fluctuating polls.
So we sat down and thought exclusively about Surbiton Hill and its concerns and the part we have played in them. With your support we will continue with the same energy and commitment for the next four years.
- We have fought for vital repairs to School Lane and secured £15000 for new Children’s play equipment.
- We worked with Residents in Bond Road and Ellerton Road to bring to an end anti-social behaviour that blighted residents’ lives.
- We secured funding for new road surfaces in Arlington Road and Oakhill Road with new pavements in Lovelace road.
- Oakhill, Glenbuck Road and Southbank have been defended from developers of the Surbiton Station Carpark and supported against unscrupulous developers who broke the law.
- We helped form an Oakhill and District Residents Association to give a voice for those who are concerned about the redevelopment of the former Surbiton Hospital and Police Federation Building in Langley Road.
- We have stood by Southborough residents in their fight against Sunrise and worked to extend the Southborough Conservation Area and now we are on the verge of a break through in introducing a code of conduct for driving schools that use Woodlands Road, Corkran Road and Langley Avenue to name just three roads.
- We have attended the Southborough Residents Association, The School Lane Residents Association, Oakhill Residents and Ellerton and Bond Road Residents Associations meetings.
- We have also supported and attended the meetings of our outstanding Safer Neighbourhood Police Team.
- Hundreds of individuals have been helped confidentially and it’s been our pleasure to support you.
We have worked 52 weeks a year for 4 years serving everyone who has needed our support in Surbiton Hill. A record we are proud of and a commitment we will give for another four years, with your support.
New quick poll on Tolworth Broadway
Our canvassing in Surbiton Hill and neighbouring wards suggests that local feeling against the Lib Dem backed ‘Greenway’ down the centre of Tolworth Broadway has not in any way abated. Person after person on Douglas Road told us how much they disliked the scheme, for instance.
To refresh memories please take a look at our ‘Tolworth Broadway’ page and vote in the poll on the right of your screen.
After voting you can add a comment if you wish.
