Road closures
from the Surrey Comet website
A gas leak has sparked emergency repairs that will close a major road for days.
The Tolworth bound side of has been shut off to traffic this morning to allow work to be carried out to repair the leak on the gas main.
The road has been closed at the junction with Maple Road and Beaufort Road from outside Wagon and Horses to junction of St Marks Hill and Lamberts Road.
It is expected the works, which will be carried out by Southern Gas Networks, will take five days to complete.
Diversions will lead cars into Maple Road, left into Claremont Road, left into St Marks Hill and right into Ewell Road towards Tolworth.
(I take it that the remark about ‘sparked emergency repairs’ is a Comet pun! Ed.)

About the changes
The Government plans to abolish the national Council Tax Benefit scheme and has asked each Council across the country to replace it with their own local scheme from 1 April 2013. Council Tax Benefit helps people with low or no income to pay their Council Tax and the changes are part of the Government’s wider welfare reform programme.
Central Government will no longer fully fund the new scheme but will reduce the money it gives to Councils by 10%. For the Royal Borough of Kingston this will result in a funding gap of just over £1million.
Kingston Council has worked hard to look at various options for meeting the Government’s funding cut in a way that protects the most vulnerable residents, including older and disabled people, families with children and people on low incomes.
