Oakhill chaos
Happened to visit Oakhill Road this morning. The Health Centre car park is closed off by a chain and the traffic was horrendous as people were trying to get into and away from the surgeries and others, including vans, trying to get through parked vehicles on both sides. One driver of a Land Rover had to park briefly in the middle of the road to allow and elderly and disabled person to get into it. Some people going the other way were less than sympathetic and I was concerned at oe point that frayed tempers might lead to a major row.
This may all be a consequence of the current building works and a purely temporary phenomenon. I hope it is but I worry that it might be a precursor of the delivery and collection of children from the large new primary school. This is what local residents feared all along and what their councillors since 2010 turned a deaf ear to.
Come on Paul, you know this has nothing to do with the new school or hospital
Stop trying to create issues that dont exist, that is the sort of thing Nick Kilby does and why he lost. You are better than that and why you should have been the candidate.
Actually Tania I don’t know what exactly had caused the horrendous snarl up, though the fact that the Health Centre car park was chained off obviously didn’t help. The build up of traffic in the area is definitely not a synthetic issue as many local residents have been desperately concerned about it ever since the proposal to build both a new ‘polyclinic’ AND a large primary school on the same site was first adumbrated about 4 years ago. My offence. if you can call it that, was to ensure that the voice of those local residents was not ignored by the powers that be. After the 2010 election it was ignored by the local councillors, who were seen to triumph over their own constituents outside the Council Chamber in a display I found sickening.
However, we must move forward and my hope is that the fears we expressed about traffic prove groundless. This is my sincere hope for the residents of Oakhill.
Thank you for the compliment. You can sign my nomination paper in 2014 if you like!
Tania – I hope the fear of many in oak hill and shared by me was unfounded but if not make sure you sign Paul’s nomination papers. The new school is progressing well and we will soon see how things go with traffic.
I live down this road and I agree that the traffic for those days was terrible. It was caused purely by the fact that the clinic car park was closed (due to a large tree becoming dangerous and having to be cut down, the note attached the chain did state this to anyone who was interested.) and the clinics not let their patience know about the problem. This lead to 10+ people arriving in cars at the same expecting to find a place to park. Traffic down this road is always fairly constant and I believe that the only cause of this traffic was the car park closure and all the people who were driving to the clinic without knowing about the issue. LEave your political agenda’s at home when trying to write about facts.
