Darzi and our local medical services

August 12, 2008

There is concern that the implementation of recommendations by Lord Darzi on local health services may affect patient access to GPs and relationships with GPs by encouraging the development of ‘polyclinics’.

Paul expressed some of the concerns at the last meeting of the Health Overview Panel. A summary of the report, from a health service source is at this link. Click on the line marked ‘Download summary’ to read the shorter version.

Please let us know what you think by submitting a comment or by emailing Paul (see About Us page).

Town centre parking controls extended

August 4, 2008

Parking in Canbury Park Road(Adapted from RBK website)

The parking controls in some of the Controlled Parking Zones in Kingston town centre have been extended from Monday 21 July 2008.

Residents with queries about the changes should contact Environmental Services on 020 8547 5929 or email environment@rbk.kingston.gov.uk

The changes are being introduced to ensure that local residents living in controlled parking zones near to Kingston town centre are able to park near their properties in the evening. The operational hours of three CPZs will be extended until 10.30pm each evening to give priority to local residents who already pay to be part of the scheme.

Visitors driving to the town centre will be encouraged to used one of the safe and secure car parks in the town centre that remain open throughout the evening and cost a flat rate of just £1.00 to park for the whole evening.

The roads that will be affected:

Zone A/A1

  • Knights Park area, Surbiton Road and Southsea Road.

Zone B

  • Acre Road (between the Mosque and Richmond Road), Canbury Park Road (from Elm Road to Richmond Road), Cowleaze Road, East Road, Elm Crescent and Elm Grove.

Single yellow lines within these areas will also be controlled up to 10.30pm each night.

Although this change affects wards in Kingston Town Neighbourhood, Surbiton people visit central Kingston and we would like to hear their views. There are also some people who would like to extend this idea to some parts of Surbiton. We’d like to hear what you think about that too.

Surbiton Hospital resurfaces

August 3, 2008

It’s good to note that, following the latest Surbiton Hill In Touch, our intrepid MP has decided to air once again the issue of Surbiton Hospital. We hope he will get his Lib Dem Council colleagues to be a bit more proactive in the matter too.

It might also help if he and they were more ready to work with the Councillors whose ward contains the hospital and who were the first (with the local press) to raise vocal opposition to the threatened closure three years ago.
