Recycling arrangements for Christmas and New Year
from Environment, RBK
We are continually improving your recycling and landfill waste collection service, and this year, the collection crews will be working on the Bank Holidays over the festive season. This means your andfill waste and recycling will be collected on your normal collection day.
Please place your containers out for collection by 6am on your usual collection day
Christmas Tree Collections
Christmas trees will be collected for composting from Monday 3 January to Friday 22 January 2011. Please place your trees out for collection on your normal landfill waste collection day. You can also take your Christmas trees to the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre on Villiers Road.
Happy Christmas!
Highway works in progress
RBK Highways reports the following:-
1. LOVELACE GARDENS: Footway resurfacing by the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames. Signage only. These works are due to be completed on the 24-12-10.
We are keen to see this work completed having fought to get Lovelace pavements sorted for some years. However, when I looked this morning, the pavement in Lovelace Gardens was covered in ice still.

Weather, bins, salt bins etc
from RBK website
Weather Forecast
Weather forecast for the period 12 noon Monday 20 December through to 12 noon Tuesday 21 December
Remaining very cold. Outbreaks of snow spreading northeast across the area early this afternoon, before easing off and becoming dry into the early hours of Tuesday morning. As road surface temperatures drop later on today, this precipitation will bring a risk of widespread ice.
Recycling and Landfill Waste Collection Service
The Recycling and Landfill Waste Collection service is running today (Monday). However collection times may not be as normal during the day so please leave your containers out and they will be collected as soon as possible.
If you keep your recycling outside please try to remove as much snow as possible from the recycling; this makes collection quicker for the crews and ensures the material collected can be recycled.
Winter Gritting
Kingston Council is liaising with the Met Office, continually monitoring weather forecasts and gritting the primary road network (carriageways and footways) accordingly.
The primary road network was gritted again at 5am this morning (Monday). Known problems areas in South of the Borough are being treated to assist with collections of Recycling and Landfill Waste.
Street Cleansing crews are being redeployed to clear footways in heavy footfall areas.
The Council will continue to focus its salt stocks and resources on the primary road network. This means that side roads will remain untreated – limited vehicle and pedestrian movements mean that gritting these roads has very limited impact.
For information on gritting and winter highway maintenance please see our Winter Maintenance plan:
Salt Bin Locations
The salt bins are provided for residents to treat public highways.
If you find any salt bins empty, please notify Kingston Council’s Contact centre, on 020 8547 5002
Please see our Salt Bin locations:
Snow Code
There’s no law stopping you from clearing snow and ice on the pavement outside your home or from public spaces. It’s unlikely you’ll be sued or held legally responsible for any injuries on the path if you have cleared it carefully.
Follow the snow code when clearing snow and ice safely.

More snow…….
I can verify now that Cotterill, Ellerton, Douglas and Bond Roads are all very snowbound and completely ungritted. I looked at them last evening.
Even Ditton Road and Hook Road were very icy in patches and Thornhill Road was very dodgy, considering it’s a bus route. I heaved a sigh of relief when reaching Red Lion Road that I hadn’t encountered a K1 coming the other way.
If anything the state of affairs on Surbiton Hill’s roads is worse now that it was in the snow situations last year or the year before. What, if anything, is being done about it?
